Little Rant

Yesterday, when I hopped on the internet, the MSNBC headlines were screaming that North Korea was boasting that it would launch a pre-emptive nuclear strike on the U.S., breaking the sixty-year-old truce we’ve carried, making them the third nation to threaten us with that.  It was a sobering start to my Thursday.

Then when I got back on that night and was immediately pissed off.  It only got worse this morning.  I wanted to see more about what was happening on the other side of the world.  One of our nation’s oldest threats is heating up, and where are the headlines for this?  Nowhere.
What do we have instead?  Actors, sports updates, Justin Bieber collapsing on stage, and a prescient cat foretelling death.
This is why I stopped keeping up with news.  Many won’t watch the news because they say it’s depressing.  I don’t understand that; if there weren’t any conflict, they wouldn’t be stories.  And besides, it’s still important to keep up with what’s happening in the world.  No, the reason I can’t stomach the news is because these days, a fortune-telling cat is given higher priority than a potential nuclear situation.
I’m willing to stomach the media’s slants, liberal or conservative.  They both color the facts horrendously, but at least the facts are available.  But I want the news, front and center where I don’t have to dig for it.  I already have enough resources for entertainment.  I am not starved for my personal recreation and amusement.  I am starved for a responsible news resource.

  1. I SOOOOOO agree with this. I am so tired of all of the fluff pieces while the weightier matters are ignored. How do we make responsible decisions for our lives when we aren't given pertinent facts?
